This is the season
where we are leaving behind high school and gearing up for college in
preparation for our future careers. Some of us dreamt to be an Engineer,
Architect, Doctor, Nurse and many other professions. And there are some who bravely considers careers at the sea. Watery cool! If you are one of those
courageous guys and gals, this one is for you!
So what are the available professions at the sea?
Here is a list of some of the top seats you can consider.
Captain
He is the highest officer in the ship. All commands and
decisions are coming from him. He monitors daily activities, making sure that
it conforms legally according to the law and requirements of the owners or
company. He is responsible for everything that happens inside the floating vessel.
Remember, it’s going to be a tough and a long way up to stir
that wheel!
Chief Officer
He is the second line in command, after the captain. He is
to supervise the deck crew, the safety and security of the ship as well as the
welfare of the whole on-board personnel. Under him are the Second, Third Officers
and the Deck Cadets.
Chief Engineer
His duty is to supervise, maintain, monitor and operate all
machinery and equipment that’s in the ship. He lead the team of engineers
reporting to him like the, Second, Third and Fourth Engineers as well as the
Cadet Engineers.
Electrotechnical Officer
He is responsible for all the electrical systems inside. He
receives instructions form the Chief Engineer. Because of modernization and
fast-paced technology advancements, conventional systems are now replaced by
more automated-electronic circuits, thus the role of Electrotechnical Officer
plays a vital position in today’s maritime.
Chief Steward
He is responsible for assigning, instructing and delegating
personnel performing different functions such as serving meals, cleaning rooms and
the like. He is also to receive, issue and inventorying stores. Additional
duties may include cooking, baking of bread and cakes and a lot more.
Chief Cook
He is working in the steward’s department, directs and
participates in the preparation and serving of meals in a timely manner. He
also inspects the kitchen premises and equipment to ensure cleanliness and
proper sanitation.
